For the month of September, SAFe Rescue has the pleasure of honoring a volunteer who has assisted us through the uncertain times brought on by the pandemic. Laura Miller joined our volunteer team shortly before January 2020 and has assisted us on Clean Team ever since!
Laura has found that her favorite part of being a volunteer is having the “opportunity to help out and give time to an organization that helps save feline lives.” Laura explains that overall her favorite part of SAFe is being surrounded by a community of cat people who are so passionate about saving the lives of homeless cats and kittens.
While we have limited our onsite staff and volunteer numbers to keep our community safe and maintain social distancing, Laura knows that—although she may only see a limited number of people during her shift—there are so many more staff and volunteers dedicated to finding loving homes for rescued cats. “I feel I could never get enough of cats, nor the people who are also crazy about cats. The need is huge to help at organizations like SAFe.” Laura says that while she knows SAFe is small in size, the impact made between volunteers, staff, fosters, and our community is huge. “When looking for volunteering opportunities, I chose SAFe because even though they are small they accomplish BIG.”
Laura’s dedication on Clean Team has never gone unnoticed by staff and other volunteers. While cleaning litter boxes and food dishes might not always be the best smelling project, Laura stresses the importance of filling this role. Although it may feel like a drop in a large pond, that drop makes a huge difference: “I am willing to do this kind of work because it is all a part of a bigger mission and everything the staff and volunteers do big and small matters. I love volunteering and I feel joy when I am able to give my time to something that supports my own values and beliefs.”
Thank you for everything you do, Laura!
