Fosters of the Month: 300!

Since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, SAFe Rescue has seen an outpouring of compassion from local animal lovers. As the world looks uncertain, folks are finding ways to take action to support their community. We are so grateful for all of the helpers who have stepped up to care for local cats.

April’s fosters of the month are the over 300 new volunteers who have signed up to take care of cats and kittens!

Our foster team has received so many encouraging messages from cat lovers from all walks of life, and our new foster homes range from folks who are working from home who now have extra time to spend with a cat, to those who have been thinking about fostering for a while and have heard there’s an extra need right now, to people who are living alone and looking for shy kitty to help get comfortable with people.

While our physical space may be closed, this overwhelming amount of support has quadrupled our amount of available foster homes. Knowing that we have so many passionate people who are willing to help out cats in need makes it possible to save more lives.

As we work under the constraints imposed by COVID-19, foster homes have found themselves waiting a little longer than usual between signing up and receiving their first foster. But that hasn’t stopped our league of extraordinary cat lovers! Both new and experienced foster homes have been using this time to prepare by becoming Fear Free certified, watching kitten care webinars, and staying connected.

It’s no secret that the world has felt scary for the last few weeks. As almost every member of our community is dealing with huge changes to their day-to-day lives, we find ourselves in a unique position where we are relying on each other more than ever for comfort and mutual aid.

This uncertainty extends to our animal neighbors as well, and we are truly so inspired by the folks who have stepped up to offer their homes, time, and hearts to cats in need. We appreciate all of our new foster families so much!
