Goldie’s Foster Update: We caught up with Goldie and his foster mom over themed mocktails for Ginger Cat Appreciation day on September 1st…watch here!
Get to Know Goldie
Nine-year-old Goldie loves everyone. He never met a human he didn’t instantly befriend, ambling over to say hello with a head bunt and rumbling purr!
But when he starts purring, wheezing often follows. He begins to make high-pitched croaks and will excuse himself to lie down. Though we have a name for this condition—laryngeal dysfunction—our medical team still hasn’t uncovered why purring triggers this response. Even after multiple x-rays and veterinary exams, the exact root of Goldie’s breathing difficulty remains a mystery.
In order to care for Goldie and cats like him, SAFe Rescue aims to raise $50,000 for essential medical care, housing, and specialized support.
Goldie was originally adopted in 2023 by a home that loved him very much. But as his medical needs increased, so did the costs and resources required to support him. In May 2025, Goldie’s person made the difficult decision to return him to SAFe Rescue for a second chance.
Goldie’s story is a familiar one in the shelter world. In addition to standard care like food, shelter, and litter, older felines often find themselves in need of costly medical care. These added costs contribute to many shelters turning down vulnerable senior kitties.
That’s where you come in.
