Rescuing the Tiniest Lives
Happy Mew Year! As we look ahead to 2026, nothing captures the spirit of possibility quite like SAFe’s smallest residents: newborn kittens, also known as neonates.
During their first month of life, kittens are completely helpless. They need to eat every few hours. Their movement is limited. They can’t regulate their body temperature, or even go to the bathroom on their own. Normally, a mother cat provides all of this care. But sometimes, kittens arrive without one.
That was the case for Bob, Kevin, and Stuart, three tiny brothers who came to SAFe on December 2nd.

Stepping In When It Matters Most
The mother of these three little ones developed mastitis and could no longer nurse them, leaving the three-week-old kittens in need of round-the-clock bottle feeding. Fortunately, they had healthy appetites – and thanks to their dedicated foster family, they began growing bigger and stronger every day.
“They are very playful and loving!” shares their foster, Chris.
When Our Community Steps In
Without a mother, very young kittens face overwhelming odds. But thanks to the compassion of our community – from the emergency veterinarian who first took them in, to the foster who carefully guided them through early development – Bob, Kevin, and Stuart were given the nourishment, warmth, and care they needed to survive.
From Bottles to Big Adventures
Day by day, these little ones are transforming into healthy, thriving kittens. Right now, that means transitioning from formula to wet food.
Before long, they’ll be ready for adoption – bringing joy, comfort, and companionship to the families lucky enough to welcome them home!
Bob, Kevin, and Stuart are just three examples of what’s possible when a community comes together to care for its most vulnerable. Your kindness carried so many cats through uncertain moments in 2025. Together, we can make 2026 a year of even greater impact for cats in need.

Thank you for offering help and hope to our feline friends – from the cats in your own life to the tiny lives growing stronger in our care.

SAFe’s Foster Manager, Michelle, ensures every kitten is healthy when they arrrive!
We’re grateful to begin another year of saving lives, one cat at a time!
