About Jesse
Jesse has been volunteering with SAFe Rescue since 2024. As a veterinary assistant student in Renton, volunteering for an animal welfare organization just made sense! When he’s not learning how to help animals in school or applying those skills at SAFe, Jesse enjoys going to live shows and looks forward to summer break.
Jesse’s Role
Jesse plays an instrumental role in preparing the Medical Suite for surgeries…literally! One of Jesse’s primary—not to mention important—duties is getting surgical instruments and equipment ready to go for surgeries, including spay and neuter operations. Every kitty must be fixed (spayed or neutered) before adoption, so Jesse’s hard work is making a difference for a lot of felines!
“Every week Jesse goes above and beyond to make sure all of the cats are taken care of,” says Angie, SAFe’s Veterinary Manager. “He is always eager to help out the kitties. He always is asking great questions to further his assisting skills.”
In addition to surgery prep, Jesse supports kitties at the Rescue by performing evening cat care tasks and even getting some hands-on experience during surgery days. He also helps out weekly with cat intake, aiding the SAFe team in the process of setting up new arrivals from transport partners.
Thank You, Jesse!
Jesse’s commitment has brought a lot of comfort and care to cats, but it’s also been a valuable learning experience on his part.
“I’ve learned a lot about cat behavior, and how shelters work,” Jesse says.
“It has been fantastic to have someone in a veterinary assisting program volunteer with our organization,” adds Angie. “Jesse is a great asset not just to the medical team but the entire organization.”
Thank you, Jesse, for all you do to ease the transition from intake to adoption for our Rescue cats and human staff alike! We’re so grateful to count you among SAFe’s Volunteer dream team, and we know very soon you’ll be a fabulous, certified Veterinary Assistant!
