Spay & Neuter for Cats
Spaying or neutering your cat is one of the most important things you can do for their health — and for cats in our community. These surgeries help prevent unwanted litters, reduce certain health risks, and can even improve behavior.
Seattle Area Feline Rescue now offers affordable spay and neuter surgeries for cats, performed by our experienced veterinary team in a safe and caring environment.
If you don’t see the appointment type you need, please check back soon. Demand for these surgeries is high, and we appreciate your patience as we work to serve as many cats in our community as possible.
If you think your pet is having a medical emergency, take them to a veterinary hospital right away. Seattle Area Feline Rescue is not a full service veterinary hospital and does not have the capacity to provide emergency care.

What’s Included
Every spay/neuter appointment includes:
- A basic physical exam to make sure your cat is healthy for anesthesia
- Sedation before anesthesia for comfort and safety
- Full anesthesia during the procedure
- A small green line tattoo to indicate your cat has been altered
- Every cat spayed or neutered at our clinic will receive a small, green tattoo next to their incision, to let future caregivers know that the cat has been spayed/neutered. This helps ensure that an invasive surgery can be avoided in the event that the cat is lost or rehomed in the future.
- Post-surgery feeding once your cat is awake and alert
- Detailed take-home care instructions for recovery
Before Surgery: How to Prepare
To keep your cat safe under anesthesia, please follow these instructions:
Fasting:
- Last meal: a small serving of wet food before midnight the night before (no dry food)
- No food or water the morning of surgery (starting at midnight)
- If your cat arrives with a full stomach, we may have to cancel the surgery and your deposit may be forfeited
Carrier Required:
- All cats must arrive in a secure carrier, no exceptions
- If you don’t have one, contact us at least a week before your appointment to borrow one at no cost
Health and Vaccination Status:
- We recommend your cat have had a wellness exam within the past year and be up to date on vaccinations. Please note that if they are not, there is a very small chance they could be exposed to an infectious disease in the animal shelter. You may request vaccines to be given during the surgery.
- Please disclose any known health conditions at the time of booking
- Cats are required to be at least 2.2 lbs before surgery
After Surgery: What to Expect
- Your cat will be monitored closely as they wake from anesthesia
- Pain relief will be provided during surgery and recovery, most cats do not need additional medication at home
- If your cat licks their incision, a cone may be placed. Returning the cone afterward helps keep costs low for everyone.
- You’ll receive clear, written aftercare instructions, including signs to watch for and when to contact us

We can loan you one. Contact us at least one week before surgery.
How early can I spay/neuter my cat?
There’s no age requirement to spay/neuter your cat, however we do require all cats to be at least 2.2 lbs before surgery.
Can my cat have surgery if they haven’t been to the vet recently and aren’t up to date on vaccinations?
We strongly recommend a recent exam and current vaccinations. Please note that if they are not, there is a very small chance they could be exposed to an infectious disease in the animal shelter. You may request vaccines to be given during the surgery.
