Introducing PURRspectives

A New PURRspective

Every kitty’s rescue journey looks different. A cat might arrive at SAFe in the morning and be ready for adoption by the afternoon. Another might need a few days to adjust before taking that next big step to find a loving home.

Then there are cats who spend more time than usual as a resident of SAFe.  These felines need more TLC, whether it be medical attention or additional time to come out of their shell. No matter what they might be going through, every cat deserves a chance to thrive.

To shine a spotlight on the different journeys going on behind the scenes at SAFe Rescue, we’re introducing a new blog series: PURRspectives!

In PURRspectives, we’ll be zooming in on some of the cats whose paths look a little different, but have the same destination in mind: a loving home where they can be their happiest, healthiest, one-of-a-kind self!

We hope by bringing you along on their rescue journeys, we can help these remarkable kitties find the place they’re meant to be.

Meet Stella

Her fur may be stormy gray, but everyone who spends time with Stella agrees this kitty is a ray of sunshine.

“Stella is a good balance of playfulness, cuddliness and exploring,” says her foster. “She has so much love to give.”

A bright and active explorer of window sills, empty boxes, and warm laps alike, observers might not realize that Stella is a little different from other one-year-old cats.

Her Special PURRspective

Stella has a history of seizures*, which she takes medication for every eight hours (or three times a day). Fortunately, this sweet kitty maintains her gentle disposition when taking her meds–though getting cuddles and Churu does make the process more enjoyable.

“She’s very docile when being held for her medication,” says one of her foster families. “We have also been able to do it with just one person administering the medication. She really is easy-going.”

Stella has been responding well to this regular medication schedule, maintaining a lifestyle that is equal parts play and leisure.

The same gray cat sits upright on a cardboard box, gaze fixed on a red and green feather toy hanging from the upper righthand corner.

A Day in the Life

At one year and three months old, Stella is full-grown, but she still has lots of kitten-like energy and curiosity. She loves leaping from the floor to the top of her cat tree to the window sill, dazzling onlookers with her athleticism. Her favorite toys are pom-pom puff balls.

“She’ll play catch with us or bat them back to us,” Stella’s foster family told us. “She’ll jump up to catch them.”

Besides her ball toys, Stella has a fondness for her feather wand and even plays a version of hide and seek. When playtime is over, Stella likes to unwind with cuddles and brushing, gently head butting to request attention. In her previous foster home, she fell asleep on top of one of her people doing homework so often, she earned the nickname “study buddy.”

How you can help: Follow us on social media for more Stella content, share this blog post or Stella’s adoption profile, and spread the word about kitties in need to your friends, family, and community.

Coming Home

“It’s hard to put into words how sweet Stella is unless you’re around her,” her foster home reports.

“We think Stella is an amazing cat who just needs that special someone to care for her,” says SAFe’s Adoption Manager, Sarah. “She is doing great and her day-to-day life is the same as any typical cat. She wants to spend her days purring, snoozing, and tricking her people into giving her more treats.”

Though she remains in foster care to keep up her medication schedule, Stella is ready to go home! You can learn more about adopting Stella from her foster home by reaching out to fosteradoptions@seattleareafelinerescue.org
